This new group meets in the Burraton Community Centre Lower hall on the second Friday of the month at 2 pm and has a field trip on the third Friday of the month. At our meetings, we have a short talk about the next field trip, learn about parts of buildings and styles and sometimes have a video on a relevant topic too.
We aim to learn about the different styles of architecture and how buildings have evolved over time, looking at how methods of construction and their structural strength interact within their artistic forms and the aesthetics of the buildings. To this end, we have started on an A-Z journey through some of the most common terms used in Architecture, with illustrated explanations. Plus looking at the chronology of different styles of architecture.
We use a combination of learning at our meetings and field trips to interesting buildings, not only locally but also possibly in the future to UK cities and even abroad in our attempt to appreciate the architecture around us.
